Description

Real experts debate one of the hottest topics of the day.

Can a sufficient quantity of prescription drugs be safely imported from Canada to help reduce costs for taxpayers and people with low and moderate incomes? That was the question addressed by nine expertgs, elected officials, and business leaders at the National Symposium on Drug Importation, held in Chicago in October 2003. All presentations from the conference were transcribed and are published here, edited with the speakers' permission, so everyone can better understand what is at stake in this debate. The speakers' presentations were titled:

* Not a Solution to State Budget Problems
* The Danger of Unknown and Unknowable Costs
* Small Gains, Enormous Risks
* The Dubious Economics of Drug Importation
* A Canadian Economist's Perspective
* Don't Just Stand There, Do Something!
* Costs, Compulsory Licensing, and Counterfeiting
* It's Really About Spending, Not Safety
* Summary: The Pros and Cons of Drug Importation

Bonus chapters:

* Blagojevich's $91 Million Mistake
* Letter from the FDA to the State of Illinois
