Description
Robert Pointer is a forty-something upward mobile executive operating as a corporate cog in the moving machinery of the Reliable Health Assurance Company. He is tasked by his new boss and company CEO with the prime directive that he is to increase quarterly profits... at any cost. Robert will either fulfill this new directive and move up in the company... or move on. Robert goes all in. He produces a Cost of Life Index (COLI) for each client. Robert uses this to determine if the client is too great a financial risk to the company. If the client is considered too expensive, a Dispatcher is sent to eliminate the client.
The story begins with a quirky Internet reporter and his boss Claire in the Blue Ridge Mountains, flashes to unsolved murders on an ocean cruise liner, inner-city Philly, a Florida health club, a bird watcher in upstate New York, a casino in Nevada, while revealing a sinister plot hatched on the dark web that reaches into board rooms, private companies and law enforcement bureaus across this country and abroad. Terrifyingly plausible, possible and even probable given today's corporate and political climate. After all... we're only numbers.
