Description
Guilty. Ex-con. Felon. Prisoner. Criminal.
Words that define me now.
Words that warn decent people to stay away.
I never thought much about words before.
Didn't realize how heavy they could be --
how permanent.
Slut. Hussy. Whore. Homewrecker. Jezebel.
Words they use for me now.
Words that will never wash off.
The proof of them grows inside me, undeniable and alive.
A constant reminder that I deserve what they say.
Those words give the entire town permission --
to judge, to sneer, to condemn.
I am wrong.
They are right.
