Description
The University of New Mexico Chicano and Chicana Studies Department Borderlands Poetics course is a writing workshop focused on Chican@ poetics and other literary works. It is intended for individual students to read and analyze Chican@ poetry and poetics (explications), as well as write and work within the classroom environment and community at large. Together we explore the "in-between" identities and stories of border dwellers both past and present. We imbibe the revolutionary and vibrant languages of the Pochas/os, Spanglish slingers, two-spirited voices, code-switchers, and Mestiza/s and Chicana/os. Bilingual is incorporated within the course as well as materials that promote cross-disciplinary studies and an intersection of cultures. Course taught every spring semester by Jessica Helen Lopez, City of Albuquerque Poet Laureate, Emeritus. Contact her at lopez35@unm.edu.
