Mario DeLuca, drugged and unable to respond, is unsure if he's living through a reality or one of his recurring nightmares in which an unknown man is chasing him.

Chief Parks sends Mario to Las Vegas for a convention but has other motives -- she has received news that her sister in Las Vegas thinks she's spotted her missing daughter, Sophia, who disappeared over six years ago.

Mario decides to investigate just enough to appease the concerned mother and finds potential evidence that it may actually be her daughter. After hatching a plan to rescue her from Salvadoran sex traffickers, they manage to return safely to New Orleans and place Sophia in protective custody, as the Salvadorans are still looking for her.

The story is set against the historic backdrop of New Orleans, as readers follow Mario through dangerous alleys and waterways while he works to stay ahead of the kidnappers and uncover the mystery of how Sophia ended up with them.
