TURTLE BAY introduces Shamus Pickford, an unlicensed fishing guide on the waters of Southwest Florida who rarely gets a day off -- but when he does, it's beer, boats, and buzzes with his hard-living buddy, Klinger Nowell. Klinger's a Florida good-ole-boy who lives fast and thinks later, and their plan for a laid-back day of casting lines and crushing cans is off to a perfect start.
Until they see a low-flying plane drop something into Charlotte Harbor.
Curiosity gets the better of them -- mostly thanks to Klinger -- and what they find floating in the water isn't just illegal, it's dangerous. They're not the only ones looking for it. Within hours, Klinger is kidnapped by two armed goons aboard a boat called The Itinerant, and Shamus is left with a busted fuel line and a fast-dwindling list of options.
Enter Flip, Shamus's laid-back neighbor, who happens to be riding out a thunderstorm in the mangroves. Together, they track the kidnappers to a derelict fish shack deep in Turtle Bay. But with no cover, a rising tide, and a pair of thugs desperate to complete their delivery, pulling off a rescue might take more than just dumb luck and local knowledge.
Fast, funny, and fueled by backwater bravado, Turtle Bay is the first novel in a series starring Shamus Pickford and his semi-reckless sidekick Klinger Nowell -- two small-time guides who hook a little more than they bargained for.
