Description
People's Kafe - Stories of Human Emotions, Endeavors & Inclusion is my humble attempt to present to you my bank of experiences with people collected over years from workplace, society and home. I been an avid student of human psychology, partly by qualification but mostly by observation. The art of storytelling has been my proud inheritance. Growing up, I had the innocuous luxury of listening to anecdotes of people from my grandparents during my impressionable days of adolescence. In more recent years, my father has become my sounding board. His compelling insights into human behavior, accumulated through years of bureaucratic experience still intrigue me. I realized early on, that every opportunity to mingle with people is a fascinating journey into their prism of world view, that has shaped them to be the persons they are.
These fourteen personal narratives will unfold to you my learning from consociating with people, deciphering their motivations and witnessing latent biases in the societal structures. My inspiration came from various organizations I have had the privilege to work or interview with, simple hamlets from all walks of life, cities that I lived in, places I travelled to and so forth. As you sift through these real stories, you may find yourself questioning the accepted norms as I have attempted to unearth a "devil's advocate" point of view.
The stories are simple and relatable. I have tried to explore a wide range of topics, simplistic ones like human aspirations to more complex ones like invasion of technology in modern lives. My personal value of inclusion is another theme that runs as a continuum in three of the stories. With every story, my goal is to leave you with a thought-provoking nugget that may help us seek a better future for the humankind. My conviction is that people who are start-up entrepreneurs, business leaders, homemakers, citizens of metropoles, corporate professionals and students will find these stories appealing.
My hope is, through this book, we will tide past some of the barricades within our mental maps and expand our boundaries of inclusivity. Eventually, a lot went into bringing this book to life in its form today. I have heartfelt gratitude for my parents, Mr. Yogesh Kumar & Dr. Suchitra Kumar who were my rock-solid pillars in all times of trials and tribulations. My grandparents, whose profound teachings find a creative inlet into my stories.
I'd like to leave readers with a concluding thought - Taj Mahal, revered as the ultimate architectural magnificence, has in its lyrical composition, raw materials sourced from the world over. Taj was built from the white marble from Makrana, the Jasper sourced from Punjab, the Jade and crystal from China, the turquoise from Tibet and the Lapis lazuli from Afghanistan, while the sapphire came from Sri Lanka and the carnelian from Arabia. All of these stones amalgamated to result in an exotic piece of art, that has stood the tests of time. Likewise, when we tap into the potential of diverse sections of the society, the sum total of their collective contributions can create magic!
My works are dedicated to my grandparents, whom I hope to meet in another horizon, some time in eternity.
Happy reading!
Priyanka Kumar
