Description
A drifting cowboy with nothing more than a horse and gun rides into a small Kansas town looking for a job. He takes a job with Wells Fargo and is faced with an unbelievable force. The ruler of the range is so powerful that the town marshal nor the county sheriff will even think about arresting one of his people. He must face the fact that his fast gun is not enough when he is facing twenty outlaws. He forms a plan to have his brother recruit a handful of young men from the hills of West Tennessee. He grew up there and his brother still lives there. The guys that his brother sends can't read or write, but are born to the mountains and the woods. They are his secret weapon in a three year range war.I had been hurrying for the last hour. I wanted to reach the valley floor before full dark. I almost made it, and thought I could go the last hundred yards safely in the dark. I dismounted and led my horse. I couldn't risk him. He and a gun were my entire holdings. I had three dollars hid in my boot. I had promised myself that I wouldn't spend that money unless the alternative was death. I could see lights in the town across the little valley, but I wasn't going to cross in the dark.
