When Alex appears in the Useless hideout with no explanation of where he came from or how he arrived, Mabie is suspicious but she takes him in. Suspicion eventually transitions to attraction on both sides, and Alex realizes he's taken over the character of her future lover.
Meanwhile, the story continues with or without Alex there to write it. Which means Mabie will die. As their relationship grows, so does his desperation to save her. But can he change the story from inside its pages?
