Description
Hi, and welcome to Prompt & Circumstance, an anthology made up of people's stories formed by prompts given over the years at the Greece Barnes & Noble Writing Group. If you're a writer looking for writing prompts, I'll include several that we've used within our group at the end of this book.
When I first started this writer's group fifteen years or so ago, I had no idea it would bloom into such a remarkable network for writers at all levels and stages of writing. Our monthly in-person group boasts between 20 and 25 people. The email membership has grown to over a hundred local writers. Our Facebook group has over two hundred members.
My favorite parts of our group are the light-heartedness, the camaraderie, the heart. We tease, we persuade, we encourage. No one is alone, we're taking this journey together.
For the last several years, the group has put together Halloween Anthologies. This year, the group voted to do something different. Thus, the prompts anthology was born.
The group meets (or used to, before COVID-19 disrupted our regular meetings) the second Thursday of the month from 7-9 pm. In the first hour, I give the group a writing prompt that usually comes with groans and complaints, all in the name of fun, of course. I usually invent the prompts on-site so that I don't have an unfair advantage. Many times, the group pops ideas into my head. I honestly wouldn't be as creative without them.
Because our writing group is made up of writers of various skill levels, some of the stories within these pages are from beginner writers, others are intermediate writers. I ask that if you leave a review, please keep this in mind. My goal in publishing the stories is to encourage people to write. To keep writing. And to work on becoming better writers as they go along. If you're a writer, too, I'm sure you relate.
Thank you for purchasing this book. Proceeds go to a local school or charity to help promote literacy. I hope you enjoy our group's collective creativity.
