Description
A pregnant woman shoots and kills a cop in the process of murdering her innocent husband,. This leads to her incarceration, causing her to become a national hero to some and a criminal to others. Her husband, who is a multimillionaire businessman and activist, fights for not only the freedom of the mother of his children and unborn baby, but the freedom and independence of a community fallen victim to everything from prejudice to lack of opportunity. Along the way he deals with the uncertainty of death, radical racist groups, and criminal behavior. What happens when a cop is actually killed in self- defense? Will the shooter be seen as a victim or a menace? What happens when a black man who is economically capable rises to lift his people out of oppression? Will crimes be permitted to block his progress? Will he be allowed to grow? What happens when an innocent, pregnant woman who is locked in a cage fights for her freedom? Will she ever be set free? Will her baby be born in prison? These questions and more are answered in I Can't Breathe, a look into equality, injustice, and a system that isn't always fair to the players involved. A must read.
