Great sermons for your edification
This book has been properly formatted, has a clickable Table of Contents, and is fully searchable.
This is the fourth volume of The World's Great Sermons. As Christians, we are also a product of our time and the problems we face in society and the church. God's truth is timeless, though.
While these sermons have been preached in a certain time period, they are some of the greatest sermons in history from a wide variety of theological persuasions, each falling within the historic Christian faith, though.
Often, we can be so occupied with our own time and place in this world, largely unaware of the time and place of other Christians. These sermons will give you a greater appreciation of how God has worked His grace throughout history.
The following sermons are in this volume:
Lyman Beecher (1775-1863) - The Government of God Desirable
Channing (1780-1842) - The Character of Christ
Chalmers (1780-1847) - The Expulsive Power of a New Affection
Alexander Campbell (1788-1866) - The Missionary Cause
Irving (1792-1834) - Preparation for Consulting the Oracles of God
Arnold (1795-1842) - Alive in God
Wayland (1796-1865) - A Day in the Life of Jesus of Nazareth
Vinet (1797-1847) - The Mysteries of Christianity
Summerfield (1798-1825) - The Heavenly Inheritance
Newman (1801-1890) - God's Will the End of Life
Bushnell (1802-1876) - Unconscious Influence
As with any writer and book, we should be like the Bereans, "examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so" (Acts 17:11). Or as Paul wrote: "Test everything; hold fast what is good" (1 Thess. 5:21).
