A Modern Jew In Search Of Soul
The essays in A Modern Jew in Search of Soul are a compassionate and intellectual composite of Jewish voices, sharing their personal ideas, beliefs and experiences from many perspectives. Among the authors are several rabbis: orthodox, conservative, reform and even, as one described himself, "rebellious." Still other authors are psychologists and physicians, Jungian Analysts and professors, artists, as well as other contributing Jewish community members. Although many are American, we also include several contributors with extensive experience in Israel and Europe. The cohesive thread running through the writing and the diversity of ideas about A Modern Jew in Search of Soul is fascinating. The essays within this book are informative, inspiring and illuminating.
A small preview of the contributing authors:
J. Marvin Spiegelman, Ph.D., was a Zurich-trained Jungian analyst and psychologist. His main commitment had been to the healing of the splits within the Self. In his article, "Judaism and Jungian Psychology: A Personal Experience," Dr. Spiegelman exposes his own search for soul both as a man and as a Jew. While approaching this from the personal point of view, he encompasses the universal.
Theodore G. Falcon, Ph.D., is both a rabbi and psychotherapist, healer and teacher. In his essay, "Jewish Paths Toward Awakening" Rabbi Falcon presents to us his insight of Jewish meditation (hitbodedut) and spirituality. He provides the reader with practical methods which are applicable in daily life, some of which are based on the teachings of Kabbalah using specific Hebrew words, verses, and the Shema, the Watchword of Jewish faith from the Bible. These then are presented to the reader as some of the inner paths toward spiritual awakening in the modern world. "
Daryl Dovid Temkin, in his essay, "In Search of One's Missing Soul," reminds us that "All of Judaism-and much of civilization-has given a profound assent to the struggles of those who are "searching and finding their own souls."
A provocative read for anyone on a quest for answers. This thoughtful Anthology is divided into three sections. It has writings by Rabbi's, PHDs, Spiritual Women. All are searching for answers to questions that everyone has asked in a quest of the soul. If you never sought answers before you will now.
