Description

Everyone wants to know how to live a blessed life these days: how to be happy, how to have a good life, how to enjoy all good things. But Jesus himself taught us how to be blessed, and showed us where the blessed life leads. So in this book, an international group of Anglican theologians, pastors and writers take a closer look at each of the instructions Jesus gave in the Beatitudes, we examine the nine fruits of the Spirit and the seven deadly sins, before concluding with a section on Jesus's own last words on the cross.

The number of sections corresponds to the number of weekdays during Lent, and so it is an excellent resources for individuals and churches to use during this season of prayer and self-examination. Each section has an opening question for reflection, a Bible passage to read, further questions to consider, and a prayer to use.
"What does the blessed life look like daily? Prosperity preachers and their gullible disciples misdirect many into thinking that the blessed life is a life marked by buoyant health, bubbly personality, and bundles of cash -- as if Jesus died to give us more cash and pleasure in this present life. But the writers of this blessed book on the blessed life rightly tell us otherwise. Anchored clearly in Scripture and deeply rooted in Christ, this book reminds us that the blessed life is a far richer, deeper and better way of living because it is rooted in Christ and guided by his word and Spirit to a life of faith and obedience to God. The blessed life brings glory to God and leads to true and lasting human flourishing that carries within it a great weight of glory in the present and for the future far much greater than the ephemeral life-destroying popular message of "blessing" many of us hear today. I highly recommend this book to everyone especially to my African brothers and sisters so that together we will live a truly blessed life in Christ for his fame and our joy."
Bishop Felix Clarence Orji, Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the West and Coordinating Bishop of the Church of Nigeria North American Mission (CONNAM)

"The Blessed Life is an immensely helpful production from Church Society. With a wonderful diversity of contributors from around the Anglican world, this short book reflects upon an array of Scriptural sentences and subjects in an accessible way for all sorts of people. In a time when Global Anglicans need to drink deeply from the well of the Word, this publication offers good spiritual refreshment in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ."
Revd Dr Mark Earngey, Lecturer at Moore Theological College, Sydney and Editor of the Australian Church Record

"This is a beautiful book. These words of Jesus and the apostle Paul will bless you as they are opened up. Give this to a new Christian for them to be established in good and godly living; give this to someone older who needs to return to their "first love". Read and you will want to read again."
Bishop Keith Sinclair, National Director of the Church of England
Evangelical Council (from April 2021)

"As a Latin American Anglican this book has been a tremendous blessing for my brothers and sisters in Chile and South America. It has given us a better understanding of good biblical and Anglican theology. I really thank Dr Lee Gatiss for giving us a book like this. We needed an initiative like this very much!"
Bishop Enrique J. Lago, Anglican Diocese of the South of Chile
