Description
Monsters are real, and they live among us. True crime can be worse than anything that Hollywood could dream up. It could be your favorite author that knows their subject, or crime scenes, too well. Or it could be your financial advisor whose real name is difficult to remember because it changes often. Whatever his name is, he's not someone you never want to go fishing with. All of the stories in Far Worse Than Fiction - Book 3 are true, even if we don't want them to be. In a society that craves a motive and reason why some do what they do, sometimes we'll never know.
In this book...
? The Comeback Killer: In Austria, beginning in 1990, women were being murdered one by one. Austrian authorities believed it was one man's work, but they didn't have any experience or expertise dealing with a serial killer. Ultimately, they would reach out to the United States for help from the FBI Behavioral Sciences Unit in Quantico, Virginia. During the investigation, authorities discovered a similar pattern of killings in California during a break in the murders in Austria. This case was rare since two countries would coordinate an effort to target a single predator while he was killing.
? Coast to Coast: During the fall of 1995, law enforcement was on the trail of a spree killer who would cross the United States, leaving bodies along the way. He would hide in plain sight using his real name without fear of being detected or caught. Although authorities knew his name, they couldn't get their hands on him before it was too late for several of his victims.
? You Don't Know Jack: A man with a pistol would terrorize the people of a small Georgia town. The shootings appear to be random, and authorities had difficulty predicting where he might strike next or who the next victim might be. He would leave notes at the crime scenes to taunt law enforcement and make sure they knew he wasn't finished yet.
? There Can Only Be One: On July 28th, 1996, a mystery would kick off from 60 feet below the English Channel's surface off the coast of Devon, England, and it would go on to would span an ocean. A local fisherman brought up his nets for the day with something far more than fish. A dead man with a nice watch and a hand tattoo was part of the catch.
? Robert Spangler: On December 30th, 1978, the people of Littleton, Colorado, were getting up to go about their lives during the time between Christmas and New Year's. Littleton is a bedroom community for the nearby city of Denver. In 1978, the Littleton area only averaged around two homicides a year, with a relatively low crime rate overall. In a single morning, the town's murder rate would more than double.
* The names of the victims and investigators have been changed. Only the names of the guilty are real.
