Description
This is a stand-alone story to complement my novel 'Doctor Russell.'
19th century Britain knew extremes in wealth and well-being. Many children died young from disease or starvation. The poorest families struggled to survive even to the point of selling one of their children to help feed those remaining. Children were stolen to be trained as pick-pockets, chimney sweeps or worse. No social class in Britain was immune to the loss of a child by one means or another.
What happens to baby twins stolen from a doctor fostering them? Their beginning in a hovel does not portend well, but, it seems they were born under a lucky star.
