Description
Could anything else make life more difficult for Holly? First her mother walks off and leaves her when she is ten, then she loses her best friend when she can't attend the social gatherings with her less than presentable cloths and then as a last straw her father disappears when she is sixteen leaving her and the housekeeper wondering what to do next. Mr. Gordon, a widow that raises sheep befriended her when she was in desperate need of a friend. Now with no place to go, he takes her in continues teaching her all about sheep. Mr. Gordon is getting old and his son in Texas wants him to move to his ranch. Insisting that Holly go with him, they make plans. Before they can execute the plans, Mr. Gordon dies leaving Holly in the hands of his son. Unfortunately, his son is not pleased and tells Holly she won't like Texas. At eighteen, Holly is left to clean out Mr. Gordons house after the auction and take the few sheep he said were hers to keep. With a broken down wagon, an old horse, and a few sheep, Holly starts out to find where she fits in.
