Description
Pollyanna goes from living in a loving home with her best friend, her dad, to a cold, unwelcoming but much grander house. She and her father had had almost nothing, and her mother had died when Pollyanna was an infant. However, since he was the pastor of a small township out west in the United States, Pollyanna was raised by the whole community. This all changed when her father suddenly dies and she is sent to live with her remaining living relative.
Miss Polly is very wealthy. Having never married, she lives by herself in her family's home looked after by her maid and gardener. She had never spoken to her sister after she had left home in disgrace to marry a poor pastor, but she thought she would do her duty by looking after her niece. Miss Polly also thought it would be easy. She has a list of rules that must be obeyed, and Pollyanna would be kept quiet and cause as little bother as possible. Her world is turned up-side-down when instead of a docile obedient child, a distraught young girl trying to find joy in her life turns up instead.
