Floyd Wimms leaves Shoal Creek and heads upriver to winter with the Cherokees as he has done before. On the way he saves a young woman named Sister from two me who have captured and mistreated her. Sister thinks since he saved her, she should be his woman. Floyd doesn't want Sister to go with him and heads upriver alone. Sister follows him aiming to pay her debt in any way she can.
Floyd continues up the Chattahoochee River into North Georgia and meets Virginia. Her family owns a large farm, and she hires to stop cattle rustlers, but falls in love with him. With Sister behind him to deal with and Virginia close by, he is hard pressed to stay in control. Finally, they all meet together and Floyd has to make a decision
