Description
Based on a true story
Mary 'Stagecoach Mary' Fields was born a slave in 1832 Tennessee. Upon emancipation she migrated north, working at various jobs. She eventually became the groundskeeper at the Covenant of the Sacred Heart in Ohio. But her gruff style of dress, rough attitude and cursing meant she had move on once again.
Ending up in the Montana Territories, she took work as the first African-American woman Star Route mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She dressed like a man, carried a gun and rifle, could use them too, and even drank whiskey like a man too. Challenging societies norms in those days took a bold kind of woman... Mary was that kind of woman.
