Description
This is intended to follow on from the events of 'Cousin Prudence,' a sequel to Jane Austen's 'Emma,' but can be read on its own as a sequel to 'Emma,' allowing for some time having passed since Emma's marriage to George Knightley.
Mr. Knightley wishes to improve and increase his herd of sheep, and plans to visit a sheep fair to do so. Emma, stung by the spite of Augusta Elton, decides to accompany her husband. Other people converge on the fair, which promises to provide a good time for all, were it not for sudden danger from smugglers trying to hide their activities from the preventative officer and his men. How the 'run' goods are moved away from Nepcutt and to the rest of the country is a mystery which takes all of Mr. Knightley's ingenuity to unravel, and tests the courage of both Knightleys to reveal.
