When an American embassy official dies suddenly on Belfast's streets it's expected that Northern Ireland's Police Force will pay attention. So, although the death seems accidental, Marc Craig is asked to investigate.

Expecting a straightforward case and with little choice in the matter, the detective agrees. But he has other worries, one of which is the likely release from prison of Jason Weir, an influential gang leader with a murderous grudge against his team.
