KATINA AND JOHANN were building a promising future in a tourist town beside the Black Sea.

With the war nearing its end and no chance to escape, Katina and her family were captured and held in a Polish labor camp with other German women and children where they faced the hardships of forced labor, lack of food, and predation from their captors. The darkness threatened to suffocate the dim hope left in their hearts.
But the Polish family did not forget Katina's kindness from the past and saw a daring opportunity to help Katina and her family escape not just the labor camp but Poland itself. But to escape would take all Katina's courage and strength, and the abandonment of the other women and friends in the labor camp. The choice Katina made would haunt her for the rest of her life.
