Description
The universe throws you over a cliff when you get too comfortable
Months after preventing a magical cataclysm from blowing up half the continent, Corbin, the newest ambassador and blood mage from the dragon-riding country of Denza and his group of friends are returning to their normal lives in the quiet, unassuming country of Sunal. Corbin is ready to collect his government paycheck and settle into a life of drinking and debauchery while spending time with Blood, his hellfire-breathing dragon companion.
Just when fortune appears to be going his way, a fleet from the mysterious, ancient country of Xuvol arrives in Sunal demanding custody of Hana, the mother of Corbin's lover, Ryanna. Hana, a former citizen of Xuvol with the gift of precognition, is a priceless asset and Xuvol is prepared to go to war to reclaim her. But the small country is still recovering from their last invasion and find themselves backed into a corner. Ignoring the hostile power would create a political crisis.
All of which puts Corbin's carefree agenda on indefinite hold. Fending off Xuvol would be a nightmare on its own, but Corbin is stretched beyond his limit when assassins go on the hunt in Sunal. The first set wants to murder Blood and anyone who gets in their way. The second seeks vengeance on Corbin's friend Amber, a Gureinian turncoat who helped thwart the invasion of Sunal by her home country.
But Sunal's woes pale in comparison when total war erupts between the powerful nations of Gurein and Sovill, threatening to drag every other country on the continent into war. The chaos is overshadowed by a demonic invasion from the forsaken Gray Marches, which may annihilate human civilization.
The overwhelmed junior ambassador is beginning to wish he'd chosen a different career path.
