The novel begins in the 1970's when a young man discovers girls for the first time. Todd Preston joins a group of D&D players. It just so happens that Helen, his love interest, not only plays D&D but is The Game Master running the show. Helen also happens to be going steady with another boy. Todd starts out using The Game to be close to Helen and soon learns that there is far more to this game than he ever expected. Come and join with Todd, Helen, Steve, Greg and the rest of the D&D Adventurers as they travel to the lair of a dead red dragon in search of gold, glory and greatness in a world filled with magic and monsters in the land of Avondor.

As the action progresses, you will bounce between the mundane world of the 1970's and the fantastic world of Dungeons and Dragons. The story begins on the last day of school and Todd's realization that the twin sister of his best friend is no longer the bratty pest he remembers. Conversations with Helen and the introduction of The Game changes Todd's life in ways that will forever influence the man he will become.
