Description
Jane's letter arrived three days later. Mr. Darcy had proposed to Elizabeth at Pemberley, and she had accepted with enthusiasm. However, Mr. Darcy faced complications: he could not locate Lydia, and there was a risk that he might forfeit his guardianship of Georgiana if he proceeded with the marriage. Consequently, Mr. Darcy requested that Elizabeth defer the wedding. In light of these circumstances, Elizabeth decided to terminate the engagement.
