Description

A military history of the four-engined propeller-driven heavy bomber flown largely during World War II and the Korean War, perfect for model building.

"Highly recommended to modelers for the many interesting schemes and to anyone with an interest in aviation history and the B-29!" -- IPMS/USA

Boeing's B-29 Superfortress became an icon in its own service life and forever synonymous with the delivery of the first atomic weapons. Seeing service in the skies of the Pacific Theatre, and later over Korea, it also helped maintain an uneasy peace in the early years of the Cold War. The B-29 was a huge change from its predecessor, the B-17; Boeing had pulled out all the stops to deliver an aircraft without equal.

Introduced during the Second World War, the massive B-29 filled the gaps in the USAAF's long-range bombing capacity in the Pacific Theatre. This Flight Craft title offers the modeler and enthusiast an exciting selection of photographs, illustrations, and showcase examples to help build their own versions of the veritable anvil of the skies.

The Korean War would be the B-29's, and post-war B-50's, swansong as the jet age produced fighter aircraft such as the Mig-15, more than capable of intercepting B-29s that flew overhead. While no longer a front-line aircraft, the B-29 continued to contribute to the development of the next era of aviation. It has more than earned its place in the halls of aviation fame and provided a tangible bridge between new and old ways.
