Description

From the rugged hills of West Virginia to the halls of power in Washington D.C., and then to the confines of a federal prison, "Political Prisoner" tells the extraordinary story of Derrick Evans -- a former state delegate, educator, and family man whose life took a dramatic turn in the wake of January 6th.

This powerful memoir chronicles Evans' remarkable journey from small-town football star to groundbreaking political figure, becoming the first Republican in nearly a century to win his district in the West Virginia House of Delegates. But just days after taking office, Evans found himself at the center of one of the most controversial events in modern American history, leading to a 90-day imprisonment that would test his faith, resilience, and commitment to his principles.

With unflinching honesty, Evans provides a rare and intimate look inside the American justice system, detailing his experiences in a Michigan federal prison and the profound impact on his family -- including his wife Melissa and their four young children. More than just a political story, this is a deeply personal account of faith, redemption, and unwavering conviction in the face of extraordinary challenges.

Now, Evans sets his sights on an unprecedented comeback -- seeking to return to Washington not in handcuffs, but with his hand on the Bible as a member of Congress. "Political Prisoner" offers readers a front-row seat to one of the most compelling political comeback stories in recent American history, told with raw authenticity by the man who lived it.

About the Author:
Derrick Evans embodies the quintessential American story of resilience and reinvention. Born and raised in Wayne County, West Virginia, he distinguished himself as an NCAA First Team All-American football player at West Liberty University, where his leadership abilities as team captain foreshadowed his future in public service.

Following his collegiate success, Evans returned to his roots, dedicating himself to education as both a teacher and football coach. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to build a successful real estate investment and property management business, while his passion for pro-life activism resulted in numerous successful adoption placements, showcasing his commitment to backing principles with action.

In 2020, Evans made history by becoming the first Republican in 98 years to win his district in the West Virginia House of Delegates, securing a landslide victory that demonstrated his unique ability to connect with voters across party lines. Today, he lives in West Virginia with his wife Melissa, a first-generation American, and their four children: Marlee, Emmalynn, Waylen, and Lincoln, continuing his fight for the principles and people he believes in.
