In "Wyvern," fantasy fans will find all their boxes checked. There are dark forces at work, armies marching, dragons, wyverns, witches, fae, and all manner of mythical creatures in a world that faces chaos at the hands of evil. There is action, adventure, loyalty, treachery, a kidnapped princess, a king in sorrow, and the rise of an unexpected leader. Some will survive, many will fall. A few lucky ones will even find love. Fans of dark, epic, regency-style fantasies will love this, the beginning of a classic trilogy. Full Review: https://readerviewsarchives.wordpress.com/2024/01/11/wyvern-by-dj-obrien/

Author D J O'Brien has crafted a work that offers stacks of epic fantasy and brilliant adventure, creating a compelling narrative filled with tension and intrigue... The richly imagined world utilizes some fantastic descriptive lexis to bring it to life beyond the cinematic, offering a multi-sensory experience that feels like you've been thrown into the center of it all. I also really appreciated the close narrative work that's gone into creating the diverse cast of characters, each with their own idiosyncrasies and unique way of speaking. This story has an excellent way of bringing to life the characters and events quickly into focus with good balance of complexity and clarity. I was thoroughly enmeshed into the story from the first page. This type of fantasy is my favorite and my preferred author is Jeff Wheeler. I enjoyed this book like most of his. I finished this book in two days, I couldn't put it down. My only disappointment, though small, was the use of magic was less than I like but that's just me. I suspect more magic will unfold with the following books. Review: https://booksprout.co/publisher/team/reviewer/290611

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book - Fantasy series can be hit or miss at the best of times, but this book is very compelling! The best writing makes the pages fly by, and this book hit that very lofty standard very easily. Full of likable characters and believable villains, the author DJ O'Brien has built a world full of history, diversity and wonderfully described environments. I very much look forward to book two in the series! Review: https://booksprout.co/publisher/team/reviewer/238182

What a wonderful and epic adventure. I was honored to read Wyvern the first book in the Dark Lair Trilogy by DJ O'Brien. First I just wanted to say how much I love reading and discovering new books by Indie authors, and Wyvern is one of them. Full review here: https://thebookreviewcrew.com/wyvern-a-review-by-mary/
