Description
Explore two distinct cultures in Guyana, South America as seen through the eyes of a young girl growing up in the Amerindian village of Orealla, and in the Indo-Guyanese sector in Port Mourant. Manorma's life was complicated by a facial birthmark that was deemed a curse by the religious and cultural beliefs of the time. Her future did not seem promising, but her father knew that a good education could change that; sadly, he passed away before Manorma was five.
When the future of young people in Guyana looked bleak, Manorma dreamed of emigrating abroad to obtain a college education, but after being denied a visa again and again Manorma became despondent.
Would she ever be able to realize her dreams, or would she have to settle for an unfulfilled life?
This is a story of hope in the face of adversity and the bonds of family that helped transform the life of an orphan kin.
