Description

A dream cruise is fun, partying, gambling, relaxing, eating.

Except for one passenger.

That one hapless passenger is going to get whacked unless Serenity Cruise coughs up one million bucks.

Charlie and Ben are undercover (sort of) to ferret out the killer. There are some undercover FBI agents (kind of) swarming around. Any one of the 800 passengers and 200 crew could be the killer.

Charlie and Ben enjoy this maiden voyage (definitely) of the Serenity Cruise. It's 16 days long, weaving around ports in the Caribbean, going through the Panama Canal, and then going up the Baja Peninsula to LA, giving Charlie and Ben no rest in their quest. (Full transparency: not quite true; as you know, Charlie and Ben have fun anywhere.)

There are some obvious candidates who the killer is (you'll know them) and some non-obvious ones that would fool anybody. There are some rumored secret hidden rooms on Serenity, which makes this a jigsaw puzzle with too many pieces.

This is a quirky mystery novel that plunks sharp twists, dry humor, zero cursing, and a hero who refuses to age quietly into the same blender.

If you're a fan of Richard Osman, Robert Thorogood, Janet Evanovich, Carl Hiaasen, or anyone who knows murder should come with a side of mischief -- welcome to the club. You'll like this one.

This is a fast read. Old guys like things fast.

WHAT READERS SAY

***** "I so enjoy these characters, they are smart, funny, and they take a murder mystery to a new level. I really enjoy the way this writer writes, there is wisdom there."

***** "It has a great cast of characters that one would love to have as friends."

***** "I must admit out of the thousands of mysteries I have read, none have ended this way. Well done!"

***** "A fast-paced, imaginative, and laugh-out-loud funny mystery."

***** "I'm in love with one of the old guys. I'm not telling which."

"I was thinking of another book series to compare this to. The 1st that came to mind was the Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Both series feature old people as protagonists. Both are fun to read. Both are mostly cozy mysteries. The one element I like better in Spoelstra's series is that the main characters are American with American humor. This is not to swat at the British, not at all: the Old Guys Murder series is just more fun for me, as an American, to read. So there it is plain and simple: I'm reading not to make myself smarter, but for the fun of it all."
