Description
After waking from a deep sleep, Budi tells Gaia that he heard his dead father's voice in a dream. Since his father's death, Budi has been caught up in a bitter family conflict between his wealthy, intense Auntie and his loving, understanding mother, Ibu. They both vie for his love and attention, making him uncertain where his loyalty lies. This family conflict affects Budi and Gaia, who live in Austin, Texas, where Budi goes to college, as they are preparing for their upcoming trip to Indonesia.
During their journey, which includes visits to Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta, Gaia becomes embroiled in the family conflict and discovers what being in a multicultural relationship means. As Budi's dreams become more vivid, he realizes what he must do to end the family conflict, a decision he does not take lightly.
Belong, a multicultural novella, focuses on family drama, the supernatural, and challenges in a multicultural relationship.
