Description
The world has been ravaged by runaway human-induced climate change. In the late 21st century, pre-selected humans fled into underground shelters to protect themselves from the searing heat on the surface. Over 700 years later, only few of these shelters have survived, and the last survivors had to dig deeper and deeper into the earth's crust to escape the continually rising temperatures.
Anton Prendergast and his 56 fellow refugees in Plymcombe-Shelter-3 face increasingly complex and difficult decisions as they try to survive 120 metres below the earth's surface. In a harsh battle for survival, marred by the gradual breakdown of their fragile life-support systems, human rivalries, deadly factions, jealousy, and envy, their community gradually disintegrates into chaos.
But as they have to dig deeper, another, even more ominous, deadly human-made legacy awaits them, further threatening their precarious survival.
Read another chilling and dark psychological thriller by the author of 'Pandemic', 'The machine', 'The dream' and 'The mountain' that will take you close to the abyss of the human soul, where climate refugees surrounded by impossible odds attempt to survive in ever-worsening conditions. As usual with books by Geoff A. Wilson, 'A.D. 2817' will not be an easy read. It is another story that will make you question your own moral and ethical values in the face of the harsh realities of life and death - and of humanity's ultimate climate change demise.
