On the Caribbean island colony of Polvona, terror stalks the night.
Viviana Montenegro, brilliant, defiant, and born into privilege, has never fit the mold demanded of her. While her father oversees the island's lucrative cinnamon trade, Viviana battles the suffocating expectations of a patriarchal society as potential suitors recoil from her fierce independence and dark nature. But when a series of savage wolf attacks start taking the lives of the island's citizens, her world truly becomes a nightmare.
As the body count grows around her, Viviana is plagued with grisly dreams that make her believe she is somehow connected to the attacks.
To assist in stopping the wolf, the island's constables enlist Tristan Hawthorne, a seasoned animal tracker. His efforts lead him straight to Viviana's doorstep and into a deeply passionate affair with Viviana herself. When she confesses her fear that she may be the creature responsible, Tristan vows to help her uncover the truth wherever it leads.
But the situation becomes far more perilous with the arrival of Minister Hale, a charismatic zealot and self-proclaimed werewolf hunter. Convinced that the killings are the work of a werewolf and that all werewolves are "fallen women," he stokes a frenzy of fear and righteousness, rallying the island's people to hunt down the changeling he believes is hiding in plain sight. As suspicion tightens around her, Viviana knows it is only a matter of time before Hale discovers the tracks that led Tristan to her home.
To survive, she must unravel the mystery behind the attacks, and confront the island's brutal past, before she is condemned to burn.
Tracks of Viviana blends gothic horror, forbidden romance, and historical fiction into a story about power, vulnerability, and the monstrous ways societies treat those they fear. Though set in the 19th century, its echoes resonate sharply in the world we live in today.
