I wrote this book after many requests to address the challenging topic of loss and suffering. I wanted to create a story that both children and adults could connect with, using an analogy and scripture to help navigate difficult emotions and find comfort and hope.

Lisa shares that the inspiration for this book was both timely and Godly. One night, she had a dream where God gave her a clear vision of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly -- a gentle nudge, a whisper, to tell this story. A few hours later at church, their pastor spoke about the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly as a metaphor for change, a moment Lisa calls "God showing off." It was then that she knew this story was meant to be shared.
Initially written as a tribute to James' late wife, Bethany, Butterfly Whispers has grown into a deeply heartfelt message for anyone navigating loss. Tragically and poignantly, the illustrator, Davey Villalobos, became a "butterfly" himself before this book was brought to life.
