Description
Bodies washing up on the beach.
A bloody viral video.
A small town, with a secret.
Widower and fisherman, Julian Finch awakes to discover that the bodies of two colleagues have washed up on the beach of Drake Cove. The cosy community is under fierce public scrutiny due to a long-standing tradition called "The Culling" which consists of the slaughter of pilot whales for food consumption. An act which splits the nation.
The suspected monsters are the extreme animal rights group, the Fighters Against Animal Cruelty (FAAC) who go wherever the politics is trending. They've been harassing the small town for years, smashing up their boats and sending vicious hate mail.
A video is uploaded on social media of Julian killing a pregnant whale. It causes uproar online, and in real life. To avoid further ridicule and unwanted attention, Julian and his daughter take refuge in the home of Frank Blothio: an ex-fisherman turned writer and activist, who has a rather shaky history the town and the animal rights movement.
As Julian integrates into the Blothio lifestyle, he discovers disturbing truths living underneath the skin of his hometown that will change his life forever, and can only be found in the dangerous oceans of fairy tales.
