The fishing community of Drake Cove is under severe public scrutiny for their traditional practice of slaughtering pilot whales. Widower and fisherman, Julian Finch discovers two of his colleagues have been found dead. The initial suspects are the extreme animal rights group, the Fighters Against Animal Cruelty (FAAC) who go wherever the politics is trending. They've been harassing the small town for years, smashing up boats and sending vicious hate mail.

A video is uploaded of Julian killing a pregnant whale causing uproar online, and in real life. To avoid further ridicule and unwanted attention, Julian and his daughter take refuge in the home of Frank Blothio: an ex-fisherman turned writer and activist, who has a rather shaky history with the animal rights movement.

As the investigation of Julian's dead colleagues continue, he integrates into the Blothio lifestyle and discovers disturbing truths and secrets that could only be found in the dangerous oceans of fairy tales.
