Description
The book, Revisiting The Probability of God, applies a probabilistic methodology for interpreting evidence to assess the probability that God exists. It's a broadening of of the study that began with The Probability of God, written by physicist and risk analyst Stephen Unwin, who used Bayesian analysis to calculate a 67% probability of God's existence. The reality of God's existence is a matter of personal belief and faith, and cannot be proven or disproven scientifically. The current book adds to the excellent work that has been done by Unwin in blazing a new way of of looking at the question on the existence of God. In his book, he began with the assumption that God had a 50/50 chance of existing, which he used as the initial a priori probability. He then considered six evidences for and against the existence of a higher being. In my book we begin with a new a priori probability 66.25% that God exists which was determined from research studies based on the fields of science, philosophy, theology, and the religious community. This prior probability was used to recalculate Unwin's original evidences resulting in a significantly higher post probability of 80% for the existence of God. In addition, a new evidence category, based on a universal, global unit of faith was added to the 6 categories of Unwin, which brought the final probability that God exists to a notably higher value of 89%. Rather than opposing or criticizing Unwin's original work, it's felt that the present study adds to his ground breaking research on using a mathematical model to determine beliefs about the existence of God. While the existence of God can't be comprehensively measured scientifically, through philosophical thought, or theological interpretation alone, the use of the Bayesian Theorem offers a way of mathematically determining human beliefs about God. This isn't meant to be a universally agreed upon answer, but simply one way of addressing the question about the existence of God which has plagued humans since the creation of mankind.
