Ellena Reed, stripped of her EMT license, has spent the last few months living with the ghosts of her marriage and past failures. Jax Mercer is on the run -- though from whom, he won't say.

They're strangers in a campground until an incoming missile alert forces them into an uneasy alliance. Ellena and Jax seek shelter in a fellow camper's Airstream trailer, but with five people and a dog crammed into a trailer made for two, tempers rise and friendships fray. As brutal weather, starving alligators, and medical emergencies threaten the group's safety, they decide to leave the Airstream's safety to travel north through the swamp. Their only hope is to find Jax's fallout shelter -- if it exists at all.

But the swamp isn't about to let them go easily. Ellena must make impossible survival choices as she battles danger at every turn.
