Description
What lies in wait at the end of the world? Inspired by Star Trek, Red Dwarf and films such as Bladerunner and 2001: A Space Odyssey, Packing My Records For Mars is an abstract, hopeful, bittersweet depiction of a displaced reality at the end of Earth. Caelan Scott uses poetry to tell a compelling story about one family facing uncertainty and horrors usually consigned to science fiction.
A Man Named Ed:
"Rain has a nostalgic scent.
I used to take a raincoat everywhere,
now I take glucose tablets,
check the tyres,
load the boot with tins and records,
my kid's sleeping bag,
a vintage 2023 portable turntable,
Insulin, dressings, men's size XL stockings.
Tango in the Night by Fleetwood Mac.
All separated by plasterboard strips,
each section, exactly twelve kilograms.
Just enough to grab and run quick.
A gun, unloaded, in the glovebox,
titanium blades for the mimics,
photos of us before the pot marks,
and a silly note from Celeste, tucked
into my wallet, from the good old days,
when it used to rain."
