Description

The year is 1999. Nine years have passed since the sowing of the Cores. Jay ought to be elated, collecting his diploma in a world where education has become a relic of the past.
Yet, beneath his outward contentment, he is consumed by an aching emptiness and desolation. Life with Cobweb holds no meaning. His small town of Elemeum, once vibrant and brimming with life, now lingers as a pale shadow of its former self.
The Core has drained life in every sense. Colours have faded, leaving the world wan and lifeless. Vegetation is all but extinct, and humanity is split into two strains: humans and websters. If the fear of becoming a webster is so profound, how can there be so many?
To the world, Jay is the model young man, handsome, dependable, a son to take pride in, always steadfast, always a pillar. But deep within, he silently wages his battle, grappling with a hollow void. Can one live with memories that sap the soul as relentlessly as the Core drains water? Can one resist the allure of a free cure for human suffering?
What was once the most terrifying prospect is merely the prelude to horrors yet to come.
Is the survival of civilisation possible in a dying world?
