Description
"Never fall in love with a rodeo man - especially a bull rider," Audrey's mother warned her. "He'll break your heart."
Reared in San Diego by her mother since she was fifteen, Audrey has returned to the Chase ranch in Montana after her father's death. Retired rodeo clown Charley Anderson is keeping Sam Chase's business afloat, supplying rough stock for small regional rodeos.
The Chases have a black Angus-Brahma mixed bull, Satan Black, that hasn't been ridden to the eight second horn during his four-year career. When all-around and bull riding champion Ben Rainey, in the lead for his second consecutive championships, hears about Satan Black, he enters a Chase rodeo and draws the unrideable bull. Thrown, hung up and injured, he recuperates at the Chase ranch as his comfortable lead diminishes.
Her mother's warning in the back of her mind, Audrey resists Ben's patient wooing. Conflicts, misunderstandings and jealousy add spice to this authentically well-researched rodeo romance set in the mid-1980s.
Having grown up around rodeo men, author Karen Charbonneau lives and writes in rural North Idaho.
