Description
By now, you'd think Drew might have mastered Spanish life. After all, he's got his coveted residency card. True, it's the wrong classification, but at least he's now one rung above "illegal melon picker" in the eyes of officialdom.
Life in Andalucía remains gloriously unpredictable. One week Drew is rehearsing with his new band, the next he's dodging todgers on a nudist beach, bemoaning falling palm fronds, or watching Estepona go up in flames. Brexit, meanwhile, has waged its own campaign of attrition: first his mobile phone gets cut off, then his credit card, and finally his cherished curry delivery service is gobbled up by Spanish bureaucracy.
Undeterred, and feeling increasingly Iberian, Drew accepts an invitation to perform with a Spanish orchestra... sadly, the pandemic conspires to cancel his grand debut and keep him firmly in the cheap seats.
Craving serenity, Drew and his wife, Chris, embark on cultural pilgrimages to botanical gardens, fiestas and Moorish fortresses, but the tranquillity is shattered when serious health issues lead to a meltdown in his local clinic. Belligerent hospital administrators, car trouble, freak weather and a totally avoidable incident with an acid tank send everything spiralling back into chaos.
Funny, chaotic and entirely unfiltered, Drew's third instalment of his Andalucian Adventures proves that expat life is less "sunlit paradise" and more "sitcom with added paperwork".
