Description
Elizabeth cares for Darcy after he was shot in a duel with Wickham
When Elizabeth had been young, foolish and fifteen, she eloped with George Wickham. He abandoned her after his money ran out. Years later when trying to find Wickham, she goes to Ramsgate. Instead of her husband she finds the man who killed him in a duel. To distract herself, and because she has nowhere else to go, she nurses Darcy through his injury.
Fitzwilliam Darcy knew he had done wrong the instant he saw George Wickham fall dead. And then the next day Wickham's widow appeared at his door with two small children. Darcy had not known he had a wife and children.
As she cares for him, an intense friendship grows between Darcy and Elizabeth. But she did not want to trust or depend upon a man ever again. However, Darcy was determined to not let her suffer because he had killed her husband.
