Description
Olga, a young single woman from a remote area of Russia, has three main goals after she moves to St. Petersburg: find a good job, get married to a man who loves her and treats her well, and raise adorable children. Though she puts all her effort into reaching her goals, all she manages to achieve is a job that she doesn't hate. Even putting a personal ad in a local newspaper and signing up with dating agencies haven't gotten her closer to finding her Prince Charming. In fact, some of the dates she's set up through those avenues have even put her life in danger. At a particularly low point, she meets with a fortune teller who predicts that within a year, she'll be married and living in a foreign country. Moving to another country feels daunting -- she'll have to learn a new language, navigate new surroundings, and adapt to a new culture. But the prospect of meeting her Prince Charming and experiencing a new world with him gives Olga the courage to follow her destiny, even when the path to happily ever after is guaranteed to have bumps and potholes.
Confessions of a Russian Catalog Bride provides an inside look at life in Russia following the collapse of the Soviet Union, including the challenge to make ends meet, the desire for a better life, run-ins with corruption and the mafia, and one woman's tireless efforts to find true love.
