Description
Rae is no ordinary seven-year-old -- she lives with her parents and a team of scientists in a hidden base inside a lunar crater. Life on the Moon can be a bit lonely, especially for an only child who isn't allowed to leave the safety of the Moon base. Fortunately Rae has her best friend, a cheerful little robot named Georgie, to keep her company. Since Georgie can't leave either, the two spend their days gazing through the window of their station, watching the astronauts at work in the crater and imagining the adventures they would have if only they could venture outside.
On her eighth birthday, Rae receives the gift she has wished for most of all -- a space suit of her very own. At last, she can step onto the surface of the Moon and explore its wonders with her parents. Together they journey across the great crater and into ancient lava tubes, where Rae makes a special discovery to bring home to Georgie as a surprise. But Rae's parents have a surprise of their own for Georgie, one that will bring them even closer on their Moon adventures together.
With vibrant illustrations and a blend of science and imagination, Girl on the Moon invites readers ages 5-10 to dream of life among the stars while celebrating curiosity, discovery, and special friendships that make any place feel like home. Even when you're a kid on the Moon.
To support educational use, both print (non-ebook) versions include a glossary of Moon- and science-related terms to reinforce learning and prompt further discussion in classroom or at-home settings. Hardback version features a special wraparound front and back cover image not to be missed!
