Description
Garrick Hammerstone is the son of a dwarf and a human that lives in a small mountain village. One day the village is attacked and his mother killed. Garrick's father, Egan, decides to return to his family and clan. He takes his son with him. Garrick's uncle, the family head, welcomes Egan back and begrudgingly welcomes Garrick as well. The ruling families of the mountain believe dwarven blood should be pure and treat those of mixed blood badly.
Garrick has always had a fascination with weapons and armor but is not allowed to pursue that interest. Instead, he is trained in the ways of the warrior despite only being half dwarf. For dwarves are traditionalists, and demand children follow in their parents footsteps with few exceptions. A few years later, Garrick discovers killing is easy and he sort of likes it. Later, he loses the family name and his place in the family and clan.
Garrick's father arranges for his Garrick to meet with one of the clan's master metalsmiths. Elder Kiyan Govan takes Garrick on as an apprentice. Under Kiyan's tutelage, Garrick earns a new family name and finds his place in the world.
This story focuses on Garrick's crafting and goes into some detail at times. There's little profanity in this story, some fighting, and a bit of romance including a fade to black sex scene.
