While they're crawling underground, foreign terrorists shut down the Eastern power grid, cutting off electricity and communication. At the same time, domestic terrorists damage a local dam, prompting the government to evacuate the very area where the girls are.

Their grandmother learns about the evacuation and sets out on foot with her dog to find her granddaughters and witnesses a dirty bomb explosion along the way.

When Kit, Claire, and Lucy finish their cave tour, their guide, Janet, finds the grandmother collapsed on the floor of the cave. Soon after, a rockfall blocks the only exit, trapping all of them inside.

Can they escape the cave? What kind of world will they face if they do? Their survival depends on their ability to adapt -- and on the grace of God.
